Surface-mounted and non-contact temperature sensors

When the line cannot be opened or there is no process connection, measurements are taken from the outside. The sensor is attached to the pipe or component – either magnetically or via a spring mechanism – or measures entirely without contact via thermal radiation.

Installation is possible without downtime and without intervention in the process. However, this measures the surface temperature rather than that of the medium: depending on the insulation and flow, it may be lower. Available options include magnetic surface sensors, spring-loaded contact sensors, and infrared sensors. Where the process can be opened, a sensor installed in the process is more accurate.
