Frequently asked questions
Which measuring principle suits my medium?
For liquids in open or vented tanks, hydrostatic measurement is the simplest route. Radar and ultrasonic measure without contact from above and also suit bulk solids. Capacitive switches and floats report a point rather than a curve. Foam, dust and heavy build-up rule out individual principles – that decides the choice more than the price does.
Measure continuously or just switch?
Anyone who needs the curve – stock level, control, dosing – needs a continuous measurement. Anyone who only needs "full" or "empty" is better off with a point level switch: cheaper and more robust. The two are often combined: continuous for the stock level plus a switch as an independent overfill safeguard.
Can level be measured by weight?
Yes, and often that is the most accurate route: the tank is placed on load cells or weighing modules and the contents determined from the mass. This is independent of foam, dust, density layering and build-up, and it works where no sensor may enter the medium. The condition is that the tank can be installed mechanically decoupled.
