Quality and Certifications

Do you have a specific task? We will get back to you with a recommendation.

Many requirements for a sensor are not in the machine description, but in a standard: a zone for explosion protection, a performance level, an ingress protection rating, or legal-for-trade approval. This page categorizes the certifications found in our program and shows where the appropriate devices can be found.

Explosion protection: ATEX and IECEx

For areas with flammable gases, vapors, or dusts, we supply transducers in intrinsic safety — Ex ia for Zone 0 and 20, Ex ib for Zone 1 and 21 — and, upon request, in flameproof enclosures. The shop contains 53 load cells and force transducers with explosion protection; Ex versions are also available for temperature, pressure, level, and flow.

Information on how to read the markings, which type of protection is suitable when, and what role the Ex barrier plays in the safe area can be found in detail under Explosion protection ATEX / IECEx.

Functional safety: SIL and PL

Where a measured value triggers a shutdown — overload protection on a hoist, a limit value on a silo scale — measurement accuracy alone is not enough. A proven safety integrity level according to IEC 61508 or a performance level according to EN ISO 13849-1 is required.

In the SIL / PL measurement electronics section, there are six devices for this purpose, from strain gauge bridge amplifiers in SIL1 and SIL3 to the programmable safety controller ESMD (SCU-DR) with SIL3 and PL e. Background information, design criteria, and the practical implications of redundant channels: Functional safety according to SIL and PL.

Ingress protection: from IP65 to IP69k

The ingress protection rating determines whether a transducer can withstand a cleaning cycle. IP65 and IP66 stand for water jets, IP67 for temporary immersion, and IP68 for continuous immersion under conditions specified by the manufacturer. IP69k goes further, covering high-pressure steam jet cleaning as is common in the food and beverage industry.

Eight cells in our program reach the highest level: IP69k load cells. The ingress protection rating is stated in the data sheet for each item — it applies to the housing including the cable entry, not to an open cable end.

Legal-for-trade: OIML, MID, and NTEP

In legal-for-trade applications, it is not just accuracy that counts, but approval. Our weighing electronics are consistently prepared for this:

  • The L-W200 weighing indicator is certified according to OIML R76:2006, Class III, with 10,000 verification intervals, and according to OIML R61 as defined by the WELMEC Guide 8.8:2011 (MID).
  • The EMLC strain gauge amplifier LCB is available in a CE-M version according to directive 2014/31/EU, EN 45501:2015, and OIML R76:2006, with an alibi memory available upon request.
  • The ETLB junction box CLM8 carries OIML R76:2006, Class III, with 3 × 10,000 verification intervals and is a UL-recognized component for the USA and Canada.
  • The EILC weighing indicator (L-W200BOX) carries CE, UKCA, OIML, NTEP, EAC, and NMI — including approvals for the North American and Australian markets.

Which approval your application requires depends on whether the weight is the basis for a transaction. When in doubt, we will clarify this before you place your order.

Calibration according to ÖNORM EN ISO/IEC 17025

Together with our partner, we operate as an accredited calibration laboratory for the physical quantities of force, length, and mass. The basis for this accreditation is the ÖNORM EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard. The reference standards are regularly traced to international standards via the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) or the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV); the procedures are continuously verified through mandatory inter-laboratory comparisons.

Our services cover, among other things, force transducers and hand-held force gauges according to DKD-R 3-3 up to 5,000 kN in compression and 600 kN in tension, on-site force measurement equipment for testing machines, scales up to 150 t, as well as Class M1 weights from 1 mg to 1,000 kg and Class F1 weights up to 20 kg. Upon request, we can take over the entire monitoring of your test equipment, including reminders before the deadlines expire.

EN 1090 for structural components

The European standard EN 1090 regulates the production and proof of conformity for load-bearing steel and aluminum components. It is required where a weighing module is part of the supporting structure of a silo or tank. Several of our weighing modules are therefore available in EN 1090-certified versions.

Other certifications in our program

Also stored as evidence and filterable for items are CE and UKCA, RoHS and REACH, EAC and EAC Ex for the Eurasian Economic Union, Ex NEPSI for China, FM Approved and NTEP for North America, UK Trade Approved, GOST-R, ISO 376 for force-proving instruments for calibrating testing machines, as well as 3-A for hygienic designs.

What documentation you will receive

Where a data sheet is available, it can be downloaded from the respective item page — along with price and delivery time. Declarations of conformity, Ex certificates, and calibration certificates are included with delivery if required for your system; for custom transducers, we will agree on the scope in advance.

A note from us: We only include in our data sheets what the manufacturer has confirmed to us in writing. If we are missing a document as a certificate but only the number is known, we note this on the sheet instead of omitting it.

You don't know which certification is required?

That is standard. Just tell us about your application — medium, zone, cleaning process, whether the weight is being used for billing, and what safety function is involved. We will tell you which version covers these needs, and if no standard device fits, whether a custom solution is cost-effective.
