They receive the finished value from a \u003ca href=\"\/en\/collections\/waegeindikatoren\"\u003eweighing indicator\u003c\/a\u003e or \u003ca href=\"\/en\/collections\/waegetransmitter\"\u003eweight transmitter\u003c\/a\u003e and only display it, usually via a serial line. For a working weighing point you therefore always need both: the evaluating device and the display.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe common name varies, but the same group of devices is meant: large display, remote display, secondary display, repeater display or repeater. Individual versions can do more than repeat and come with their own setpoints, limit value alarms or dosing functions. What each device can do is stated in its data sheet.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3 dir=\"ltr\"\u003eChoosing digit height by reading distance\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThis is the decisive selection criterion, and it can be calculated. As a rule of thumb, a safe reading distance is about 200 times the digit height: 60 mm digits can therefore be read from around twelve meters, 100 mm from about twenty, and 125 mm from around twenty-five meters.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThis rule applies to good visibility and a frontal view. Allow a reserve if dust, steam, backlight or an oblique viewing angle come into play, if the operator is looking through a protective pane, for example in a forklift cab, or if the value has to be read while driving past. Measure the actual distance at the installation site instead of estimating it; the diagonal from the loading dock to the weighing point is regularly longer than expected.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eMore digits do not mean better readability. Check how many digits your display range really needs; six digits are sufficient for most scales.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3 dir=\"ltr\"\u003eCable length and interface\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe name remote display refers to distance, and distance is what limits the interface. An RS232 connection is intended for a few meters and becomes unreliable over longer runs. For distances across the hall, use RS485, which remains stable over much longer cables and also allows several displays to be operated in parallel on one line, for example one at each end of a loading hall.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eUse a shielded cable and route it separately from power cables. If cabling is not possible because the reading point is mobile or there is a roadway in between, take a look at the \u003ca href=\"\/en\/collections\/funk-messtechnik\"\u003ewireless systems\u003c\/a\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eAlso consider the power supply at the mounting location. The devices run on 110 to 240 V AC with low power consumption, but the socket has to be where the display is mounted.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3 dir=\"ltr\"\u003eBrightness, viewing angle, mounting\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eRed LED digits remain more readable than LCD in dusty halls and under changing light. Outdoors and in halls with daylight, \u003cstrong\u003eautomatic brightness control\u003c\/strong\u003e is worthwhile: the display turns up in direct sunlight and down at night. Without night dimming, a bright LED display dazzles in dark halls and is, paradoxically, harder to read.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eMount the display in the operator's line of sight and not against a window or hall door, so that there is no backlight behind it. A sun visor helps with sunlight from the front. For suspended mounting above traffic routes, check the clearance height and the fastening; with housing and power supply, the devices are no lightweights.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eOutdoors and in wet areas, the protection rating is decisive. Pay attention to the difference between versions – IP56 and IP65 are not equivalent – and plan the cable entry from below with a drip loop so that no water runs into the cable gland.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3 dir=\"ltr\"\u003eTypical applications\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eLoading and docks, where the driver has to see the weight from the vehicle.
